Bird Proof Pet Bowl for Small Pets

$4.50

3D model description

Info:

I was looking for a solution to keep the birds out of my pet's feed, but everything online I found was either overly expensive with electronics and motors and stuff in it or had too many parts and was prone to failure. This is a simple design and has none of that but does require a smarter pet.

Based on this design I made for my dog with improvements for stability. Some simple training required.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1w-GCj2w_xw

Hardware required:
1 x M5 25mm bolt
1 x M5 Nylon Threaded Nut

Hardware Recommended
Rubber feet I use in most of my models.

https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B09TVMDRQ5?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_fed_asin_title

Training your dog:

  1. Start with the lid screwed fully open and leave it until your pet is completely comfortable with the new bowl. (See picture "Step 1")

  2. Screw the lid to about halfway and wait again until your pet is comfortable. (See picture "Step 2")

  3. Screw the lid about 3/4 closed and again wait until your pet is comfortable. At this height, your pet should begin using its nose to move the lid out of the way to get to the feed. If your pet seems uncomfortable, you may need to raise the lid a little. (See Picture "Step 3")

  4. If your pet has displayed to you that it is comfortable with using its nose to lift the lid, you can, every couple of days, turn the bolt half a turn clockwise, further closing the lid until the lid is completely closed. (See Picture "Step 4")

  5. If your pet is completely comfortable with the bowl and can get to the feed whenever it is hungry, you have successfully trained your pet to use this bowl. Well done.

3D Printing Settings

Layer height: 0.16
Infill: 25%
Support: For the lid yes, I recommend normal, on build plate only. Everything else should be fine.
Brim: no

I printed this on the Bambulabs A1 with the standard 0.16mm profile and tree support, on the build plate only and all parts printed fine.

Sanding the front of the lid highly recommended. I hit it with some 180 grit and again with some 240 grit sandpaper to smooth it and protect my dogs nose.
